Our Lesson Plan

NEP 2020 Model Lesson Plan (Pancha Kosha Framework)

Subject: Science (Example – “Photosynthesis”)

Class: VI

Topic: Photosynthesis – The Food Making Process of Plants

Duration: 40 Minutes

LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • Students will be able to explain the process of photosynthesis.
  • Students will appreciate the role of plants in maintaining ecological balance.
  • Students will connect the concept with real-life experiences.
ANNAMAYA KOSHA (PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT)
  • Begin with a short energizer activity: deep breathing or stretching exercises.
  • Take students outside (if possible) to observe plants, touch leaves, and identify sunlight exposure.
PRANAMAYA KOSHA (HEALTH & VITALITY)
  • Connect topic with health: Discuss how plants purify air (oxygen) and its importance for human vitality.
  • Simple mindfulness activity: Students close eyes, inhale deeply, imagining fresh oxygen from trees.
MANOMAYA KOSHA (EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT)
  • Ask students: “How do you feel when you sit under a tree or in a garden?”
  • Group activity: Share experiences of planting trees with family or school.
  • Promote empathy towards environment (“plants as silent givers”).
VIJNANAMAYA KOSHA (INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT)
  • Use a diagram or digital presentation to explain the process of photosynthesis.
  • Demonstration experiment: Place one plant in sunlight and another in darkness; compare after a few days.
  • Encourage critical thinking: “What would happen if there were no plants?”
ANANDAMAYA KOSHA (SPIRITUAL & ETHICAL GROWTH)
  • Reflection session: Students write one pledge to protect plants.
  • Short meditation under a tree or in classroom silence — gratitude for nature.
  • Conclude with thought: “Plants give without expecting anything in return – can we learn the same?”
ASSESSMENT METHODS
  • Oral questioning and group discussion.
  • Observation of student participation in activities.
  • Worksheet / Mind-map of photosynthesis.
  • Reflection note / pledge writing.
HOMEWORK / EXTENSION ACTIVITY
  • Each student plants a sapling at home/school and maintains a growth diary.
  • Prepare a drawing/chart on the importance of plants.
